Volunteering

There are many reasons why you might want to volunteer, but whether it is to help people and give something back to society, to gain work experience and improve skills and confidence, or simply to meet new people and pursue particular interests – volunteering should benefit both you and the local community. Research shows that those who volunteer have increased well-being, and lead happier and more positive lives.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life and age groups, with a broad range of experience and skills to bring to their roles.

Our current volunteers are involved in a wide range of activities which help improve life for our local communities, including:

  • Conservation work
  • Health Walk leaders
  • Helping provide a home library service to people who are housebound
  • Sitting with an older or disabled person to give the member of their family, or the friend, who looks after them every day a much needed break
  • Helping out at events
  • Promoting home safety with the Fire and Rescue Service
  • Sitting on school admissions appeals panels
  • Helping archive important community records and documents
  • Mentoring young people
  • Supporting Youth Work projects
