Schools and Childcare

Our Schools

Around 178,000 children are educated in our network of 525 schools – the majority of which are rated as ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted (reports can be found here).

You can find more information about schools in Hertfordshire here.

Hertfordshire offers a range of childcare services which have been designed to support parents and carers and help them to provide their children with the best start in life.

Visit our Family Information Service page to find out more details of over 2000 Ofsted registered childcare providers across the county.

Young families

Our Sure Start Children's Centres across the county all provide a range of services that are designed to support parents and carers and help them to give their child the best start in life. They work with many partners including health visitors, midwives, schools, pre-schools, childcare providers and community groups to provide access to universal early years services.

With everything from parenting classes and breast feeding support to music and movement classes that are suitable from birth to five years old, going along to your local centre is a great way to make new friends – both for you and your child.
